Wrexham University Gym Case Study
WHO: Wrexham University & Declan Smith
WHERE: Wrexham
TYPE: University Biomechanics Lab and Strength & Conditioning Space
THE CHALLENGE:
Wrexham University sought to establish a cutting-edge biomechanics laboratory and strength & conditioning (S&C) space that would support the educational and training needs of students, athletes, and researchers.
With a clear vision for a space that could integrate advanced biomechanical analysis with top-tier fitness equipment, the university needed a partner capable of delivering a comprehensive and tailored solution.
Having previously collaborated with Origin Fitness, Wrexham University reached out to them to design and equip the new facility.
The primary challenge was to create a multifunctional space that would accommodate both educational purposes and high-performance training, while also integrating seamlessly with the university's existing resources.
THE SOLUTION:
Custom Facility Design:
Origin Fitness worked closely with Wrexham University to design a bespoke biomechanics laboratory and S&C space. The design process began with a thorough consultation to understand the specific needs of the university, followed by the creation of a visual proposal that outlined the layout and equipment selection.
High-Performance Equipment
To meet the diverse requirements of the lab, Origin Fitness supplied a range of high-quality equipment that was carefully chosen to support both biomechanical research and athletic training. Key equipment installed in the site included:
Power Racks and Olympic Lifting Equipment
Essential for strength training and conditioning, Origin Performance Series Half Racks were equipped with barbells, weight plates, and bumper plates to allow for versatile workouts.
Specialised Flooring and Sprint Track
40mm High Impact Tiles were installed with a compatible Corner Ramp CAP System along with an integrated sprint track, providing a safe and durable surface for high-intensity training and sprint technique drills. The track also facilitates biomechanical analysis using the lab's motion capture systems.
Biomechanical Analysis Tools
The lab was equipped with state-of-the-art biomechanical analysis equipment, including a motion capture system, to enable precise assessment of sprint performance and other athletic movements.
Seamless Installation Process
The installation of the gym and lab equipment was executed with efficiency and precision. The majority of the setup was completed within a day, with final adjustments and tweaks made shortly thereafter.
Origin Fitness's flexibility during the installation process ensured that any last-minute changes were smoothly integrated, resulting in a facility that perfectly matched the university's needs.
THE OUTCOME
The new biomechanics laboratory and S&C space at Wrexham University have become a vital resource for students, athletes, and researchers. The combination of advanced biomechanical tools and versatile training equipment has enhanced the university's ability to conduct high-level research and provide top-tier training facilities.
The space supports a wide range of activities, from biomechanical analysis and sprint technique refinement to strength and conditioning programs for athletes. The successful integration of these resources has not only enriched the academic experience but also provided a platform for developing athletic talent within the university.
Working with Origin Fitness has been a fantastic experience. The installation was smooth, and the flexibility they showed during the process ensured that everything was tailored to our exact needs. The new lab and S&C space are incredible assets to our university.
