After discussing your vision with one of our gym design professionals we will start work on 3D visuals of your gym facility using the latest CAD technology. This is an important stage in gym design, because it brings to light factors that you may not have taken into consideration, and allows you to revise your plans at little to no cost. Once the layout and equipment has been decided, we can work on the interior design and branding, should you need any.

360° Virtual Walkthrough Tour Design

A key challenge in the design process has always been visualising how a space could potentially be transformed or reimagined. For years we’ve been using the latest technologies available to create 3D models, renders and videos that demonstrate how it might feel to walk around a newly designed gym. These are not only useful for visualisation, but have also played a key role in securing funding and pre-selling memberships to a gym before it’s completed.

Origin Fitness is proud to be one of the first fitness equipment suppliers to offer Virtual Reality 360º Walkthrough Videos to give clients a virtual tour of the concepts created for their facility. Check out this example of a 360º gym design video we created for one of our public sector clients.

Other Areas of Gym Design to Consider

Equipment Zoning

Effective gyms will place their equipment into zones. Depending on specific customers, business goals and sectors, the balance of zones, in regards to size, shape and equipment will vary.

For example, commercial gyms will focus on catering for everyone, so they will need a fine balance between the main zones - Cardio, Free Weights, Fixed Resistance and Functional/Stretch. Whereas school gym's primary focus will be creating a safe environment for the children, therefore the zone balance will be affected to accommodate these requirements.

Gym Design - Equipment Zoning

Gym Flooring

Choosing the right gym flooring depends on what type of equipment you have in your gym, and how it will be used. Different areas of your gym require different styles and thickness of flooring.

Stretch flooring is required to be soft, comfortable and protective as this area will accommodate a lot of body movement. Functional areas cover a wide range of workouts, which vary in intensity.

Choosing functional flooring is dependent on what type of exercises you will be doing. Should you be doing light, body weight exercises, we would recommend a light fitness flooring.

However, should you be incorporating kettlebells, dumbbells or other weighted equipment into your functional training, we would recommend using free weight flooring to avoid any damage and to avoid any problems down the line

Gym Design - Gym Flooring

There is a particular balance that is required when designing a gym’s decor. Too busy and bold will make your gym feel small and crowded. Too clean and neutral will make your gym look boring and lifeless.

We utilise subtle design techniques to bring your gym to life, without overcrowding it. We take into consideration equipment position and the nature of each zone when designing gyms. Different zones evoke different atmospheres; therefore the decor of each zone should reflect that atmosphere, while keeping continuity throughout your gym.

Signage and Branding

We can also help you advertise your gym with signage, information points and general brand continuity. Exterior design and branding is what will win you passing trade, therefore it is essential that your gym looks just as good on the outside as it does on the inside. We can help you create exterior branding and advise you on what will work best in order to get the highest possible return on your investment.
