The challenge:
Annalisa Buchanan and Georgia Torrance founded The Fitness Education Academy with a clear mission: to raise the standard of fitness education in Scotland and beyond, creating a space where aspiring personal trainers and fitness professionals could develop real skills in a real training environment.
That ambition created a specific challenge. Club FEA's facility needed to work on two levels simultaneously. It had to be a fully functional training space where students could develop practical experience across a wide range of disciplines. But it also had to reflect the professional standard that the academy holds itself to — because the people training there would go on to work in facilities just like it, and their expectations of what good looks like were already high.
Finding the right partner to help design and equip that space required someone who could understand a brief that went beyond the typical new gym build. Annalisa and Georgia chose Origin Fitness.
The solution:
Working collaboratively with Annalisa, Georgia, account manager Matty O'Connor developed a layout and equipment plan built specifically around how Club FEA's students would use the space: learning to coach, practising programming, and developing the hands-on confidence that a career in fitness demands.
The design drew inspiration from the independent gym sector, creating an environment that felt authentic and professional rather than institutional. Students needed to train in conditions that reflected the real world they were preparing to enter, so every decision about layout and equipment was made with that in mind.
The space was planned to cover the full breadth of training disciplines that a well-rounded fitness professional needs to understand. Strength and conditioning, functional training, cardio, and athletic performance are all represented, with equipment selected to support both coached sessions and independent practice. The sprint track at the centre of the space anchors the functional training area and gives the facility a clear focal point, while the strength zone provides everything students need to develop competence and confidence with compound and accessory work.
Origin managed the full delivery and installation, ensuring the space was set up correctly and ready for Annalisa and Georgia to welcome their first cohort of students.
The outcome:
Since opening, Club FEA has delivered exactly what Annalisa and Georgia set out to create. Student feedback has been consistently positive, with the quality and range of the equipment and the professionalism of the environment drawing particular praise. Graduates leave the academy not only with their qualifications but with real practical experience in a facility that has prepared them well for the environments they will go on to work in.
The space continues to serve a dual purpose: as a training ground for students working through their education, and as a base from which newly qualified PTs can begin working with their own clients. That ongoing utility is a testament to how well the facility was designed for the long term, not just the opening day.
Matty remains in close contact with the Club FEA team, and as the academy continues to grow its reach across Scotland and England, Origin is ready to support whatever comes next.
