The challenge:
The Scottish Police Recreation Association exists to support the health and wellbeing of serving and retired police officers, staff, and their families across Scotland. As the sole provider of gym equipment and facilities to its members within the police estate, SPRA carries a significant responsibility: to ensure that officers across the country have access to well-equipped, functional, and properly maintained training environments, regardless of where they're based.
That's a genuinely complex brief. Police personnel have demanding and varied fitness requirements, from individual strength training and cardiovascular conditioning to functional fitness work that supports the physical demands of the job. The facilities need to serve a wide range of fitness levels and training styles, function reliably under regular heavy use, and be maintained to a consistent standard across dozens of locations spread the length of Scotland.
SPRA needed more than a one-time equipment supplier. They needed a partner with the capability, reliability, and geographic reach to support them not just at the point of installation but on an ongoing basis across an entire estate.
The solution:
Origin Fitness has been that partner for over 15 years. Working closely with SPRA and in partnership with Police Scotland, we supply, install, and service gym equipment across more than 100 sites throughout Scotland - from city centre stations to more remote locations where consistent support matters most.
The relationship with SPRA is built on genuine understanding of what their members need. Equipment is selected to serve the specific physical demands of police work: strength and conditioning, cardiovascular fitness, functional movement, and agility. Each site is approached with those requirements in mind, with layouts developed collaboratively to make the most of the available space and ensure the facility works effectively for the range of officers using it.
Two installations at Ayr and Stonehaven Police Stations illustrate the approach well. Both facilities were designed to serve the diverse fitness needs of local personnel, with dedicated zones for strength work, cardio, and functional training. Flooring was supplied and installed throughout, providing a durable, safe surface suited to the variety of training taking place. Every element was selected for performance, longevity, and ease of use - qualities that matter especially in facilities that need to keep running reliably with minimal disruption.
Beyond the initial installation, Origin continues to service and maintain equipment across the SPRA estate. That ongoing support is central to what the partnership delivers: not just well-equipped gyms, but well-maintained ones, kept in the condition that SPRA members expect and deserve.
Outcome:
Over 15 years, the partnership between Origin and SPRA has grown steadily, now spanning over 100 sites across Scotland. Police officers and staff across the country have access to properly equipped, well-maintained training facilities that support their physical fitness and long-term wellbeing - a meaningful contribution to the health of the people who serve Scottish communities every day.
