Highlife Highland Aviemore is a community-owned leisure centre serving one of Scotland's most loved destinations. When they decided it was time to transform their fitness offering, they turned to Origin. The result exceeded their expectations - and the numbers have proved it.
The challenge:
Highlife Highland's leisure centre in Aviemore sits at the heart of a community that takes its fitness seriously. The existing gym facility had served its members well, but the equipment was showing its age and the layout was no longer keeping pace with what members needed or expected. A comprehensive upgrade was overdue - one that would transform the space from the ground up and give the Aviemore community a fitness facility they could genuinely be proud of.
The brief was clear: a new layout, a complete equipment refresh, and a finished result that would broaden the appeal of the facility and bring in new members while better serving those already using it. Highlife Highland needed a partner who could work collaboratively, deliver on time and to budget, and make the whole process straightforward for a community-owned organisation without a large internal project team. The solution:
Archie worked closely with the Highlife Highland team throughout the design process, developing a layout that made the most of the available space and created an open, welcoming environment suited to members of all ages and abilities. The existing facility had felt constrained - the new layout was designed to feel airy and spacious, with clear circulation routes and a logical flow between training zones that made the space feel significantly larger than before.
The equipment selection was built around the needs of a broad community membership, covering strength and functional training, cardio, and free weights in a way that served everyone from beginners to more experienced members. Equipment was chosen for quality, durability, and the kind of long-term performance that a community leisure facility depends on.
