The challenge:
Ali Mitchell and Pete Armitage built Volt from the ground up, turning a warehouse in Burscough into a training facility with a reputation that extends well beyond the local area. Since launching in 2017, Volt has become one of the UK's largest independent gyms - known for its community, its atmosphere, and its uncompromising approach to the member experience.
When the opportunity came to open a second site, Ali and Pete approached it with the same exacting standards that had made the first a success. The new facility would be large, ambitious, and multi-zoned - serving a broad membership across a wide range of training styles, from high-intensity group classes to serious strength work. Equipment quality and variety were non-negotiable.
With a project of this scale, Volt worked with multiple specialist suppliers -choosing partners who could match the level they were operating at. They chose Origin to supply and install a significant portion of the equipment across the facility.
The solution:
Tom Alder worked closely with Ali and Pete to understand the demands of each training zone and recommend the right equipment to serve them. Volt had a clear vision for the space and knew their membership well - Tom's role was to bring the right product knowledge and genuine expertise to support their decisions, not to lead them.
Volt's brief called for equipment that could perform under heavy daily use across a large, active membership - covering strength, cardio, and functional training in full. Tom drew on his knowledge across the Origin range to recommend pieces that suited each zone's specific demands, while complementing the equipment Volt was sourcing from other suppliers.
Our team managed the full delivery and installation of Origin's supply across the facility, ensuring every piece was positioned correctly and set up to spec as part of the wider fit-out. With a project of this scale involving multiple suppliers and contractors, reliability and precision matter. We made sure our part of the job was done right, on time, and without adding to Ali and Pete's workload.
The outcome:
Volt 2.0 has been received exactly as Ali and Pete would have hoped. Members have embraced the new facility enthusiastically, with the equipment and environment drawing consistent praise from a membership that already had a benchmark to measure it against.
The bespoke elements Origin produced such as the custom plates, the distinctive flooring, have added a layer of identity and finish that reinforces what makes Volt different. Details like those don't go unnoticed by members who care about where they train.
For Origin, being selected as a partner on a project of this calibre by operators who had every option available to them, is something we're proud of.
Tom remains in contact with the team at Volt, and we're ready to support them however we can as they continue to grow.
