Synergy Group Fitness - Edinburgh

When Ross Paterson decided to create a new boutique fitness gym in the centre of Edinburgh, he worked with Origin Fitness to transform an industrial lot into a welcoming and interactive training environment.

Synergy Edinburgh

The Objective

Ross' primary objective was to create a gym in which users could experience some of the best functional, cardio and strength equipment available within a positive, welcoming and engaging environment. In order to achieve this, he created a selection of effective bespoke group fitness classes to help develop every aspect of his member's strength, fitness and wellbeing, all supported by the products sourced and supplied from Origin Fitness.

Equipment & Layout

The main gym space is an impressive looking open plan area, zoned to accommodate various training styles. Along the side wall, a bespoke performance rig bridges over a sprint track with prowler, and provides the framework for several squat racks as well as suspension trainers and Olympic rings. Both the rig and the track were created to reflect Synergy's brand, and add a vibrant hue to the huge space.

A dedicated strength zone includes an Origin Dual Adjustable Pulley, a large set of RD2 Rubber Dumbbells, and a pair of Multi Adjustable Benches. In addition to free weights, a range of Olympic bars and bumper plates were also provided.

Synergy Group turf and cardio

In the far corner of the main gym floor, a selection of top quality cardio equipment was provided, including two Stairmaster HIITBikes, three Concept2 Rowing Machines and SkiErgs, and three Impulse RT700 Treadmills. Their location by the back shutter door is optimal, especially during summer months, when a breeze is required to refresh those undertaking an intense cardio session.

Distributed throughout the gym floor are various functional training accessories, including a set of Origin Soft Plyo Boxes, Powerbands, Battle Ropes, Kettlebells and Slam Balls. It was important to supply a large variety of functional and strength training equipment, not only to cater to larger numbers but also to ensure no session is ever the same, increasing engagement and the sense of challenge in each class.

To ensure the entire gym is usable for weightlifting and other exercises, the entire floor is covered in 40mm high impact flooring tiles, providing impact protection while also limiting noise output.

A separate indoor cycling studio within the building houses 16 Origin Cycling OC3 Studio Bikes, each with a personal display showing workout and heart rate data.

Origin Fitness, and our account manager Euan Millar in particular, have been incredible. They have been with us throughout the whole journey and continue to offer support and help whenever required.

Euan has been instrumental in making this gym come to fruition. I had a clear vision in my head of how I wanted it to feel, look and function, and he has managed to translate my vision into a usable, beautiful gym space.
