Fit City Eccles Case Study

Fit City Eccles Case Study

Origin Fitness was deligthed to be chosen to work with Salford Community Leisure on the refurbishment of their Fit City Eccles facility in the Greater Manchester area. With the support of Origin Fitness, Salford Community Centre have been able to cater for the growing demand for strength and conditioning facilities and have seen great return since their reopening in January 2016.

Objective

With the growing competition from budget gyms in the area, Salford Community required a unique angle to keep member from across the city excited by the facilities on offer. Located within an old sports hall, the existing facilities were large and struggled to create an inclusive atmosphere.

The free-weights area caused issues for the gym's management as it could not accommodate all the members looking to make use of this. The objective was to reshuffle this to offer a greater variety in free weights and strength and conditioning exercise options, while keeping the facility flexible to allow the centre to host group sessions in the same space.

Equipment & Design

The centrepiece of the new facilities is a three station Origin Functional Training Rig, which comes with a rebounder station, boxing station and stretching station. Surrounding this, the free-weights area has been opened up and expanded with additional dumbbells, benches and other accessories that allow the members to experiment with new pieces of equipment and exercises.

The space also utilizes Impulse Sterling plate loaded strength equipment and prowler turf, to increase variety and make the whole gym feel like much more of a specialist strength and functional training facility.

Outcome

Since the re-launch, member feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and the new layouts have delivered exciting new opportunities for the Salford Community Leaisure team. They found that the increase in women using the freeweights and functional equipment has allowed them to offer Weights for Women courses – something that was not fiscally feasible previously.

Attendance and new memberships have significantly increased since January, and they have found that their members are now travelling from across the city for their regular sessions at Fit City Eccles.

Testimonial

From the initial meetings with Kenny and his ideas and conceptual drawing, the project was delivered on time, to budget and in such a professional manner that I would recommend Origin Fitness to any of my colleagues. I have worked with Kenny for the past 6 years and he is my “go to man” if I want any equipment advice for either the studios or the gyms. I also value his insight to what’s happening in the industry and how he can assist Salford Community Leisure stay abreast of an ever-changing industry
