Volt Gym Case Study

WHO: Volt Gym

WHERE: Burscough, England

TYPE: Independent Gym

THE CHALLENGE:

In 2016, Ali Mitchel and his brother brought the idea of Volt to life. Setting out to create a fitness haven like no other, they put their plans in motion and transformed an ordinary warehouse into an extraordinary facility.

Their focus has always been on building a community where loyalty is valued, and they embrace everyone’s individual commitment to creating a vibe like no other.

Continued excellence at their first site led to the opportunity to launch a second gym, Volt 2.0. As one of the UK’s largest independent gyms, the site has over 150 top-of-the-line machines including equipment from the Origin range and many others, like Hammer Strength, Life Fitness, and Eliko.

The space is the ultimate place to achieve fitness goals, and no matter the starting point, the community here helps everyone become the best version of themselves. Curated equipment, exceptional sound systems, mood-enhancing lighting and carbon-filtered air make it like no other gym in the area.

Whether you want to get your heart pumping with a high-intensity FUSION session or learn to hone your technique with the LIFTING class, they have a wide range of classes available. The variety of workout sessions makes it easy to mix up routines, make friends and achieve new goals, no matter the level of fitness.

THE SOLUTION:

Working closely with Division Manager Tom Alder throughout the project, Ali and Pete were impressed with the level of support they received from the team at Origin during and after installation.

Tom built a great relationship with the guys here a while back, so when the time came for the launch of Volt 2.0, Tom was ready to properly support the team with the design of the gym and equipment selection.

Working with Tom and the team at Origin has been a fantastic experience. Everything about the installation was seamless and we think it looks great. Little custom design features where our logo is placed really make the difference to the space. We'd definitely reccomend working with Tom and the Origin team for future projects. Equipment Installed

This was an exciting project to be a part of, which involved installing equipment from across our range, including our Storm Series, Elite & Performance Series, and range of Free Weights.

One of our favourite parts of this build was the custom-designed gym flooring, inlays, and modular storage solutions. The sprint track looks brilliant and has been seeing much use.

Free Weights

Starting with our range of free weights, we included a few Fitbox Studio Benches with Hex Catchers, allowing the Hex Dumbbells we supplied to be neatly stored. These multi-adjustable benches are a great choice for classes, and adding a set of urethane competition kettlebells really helped complete the space.

(not ours so move this)

Moving back into the strength zone, we also designed custom bumper plates for the guys here featuring their logo and typography to add an extra special touch to equipment.

Strength Equipment

We also added some strength equipment to the site, including our Glute Ham Hip Thruster Machine and Modular Storage Solution combined with our Elite and Performance Series.

Cardio Equipment

The cardio options at Volt are vast. Keeping cardio equipment this close together makes it perfect for keeping the heart rate up during intense training sessions, making moving from one machine to the next super efficient. This includes several of our Storm Air Bikes (sort) and Curved Treadmills

The site also boasts many Concept 2 Rowers and Ski Ergs, which are well suited to the style of training members are looking for in a modern space like this. This conditioning area in the gym is the perfect spot to get in a HIIT or Hyrox workout with a partner or solo.

Gym Flooring

One of Volt's more impressive parts is the installed custom gym flooring solutions. When walking through the gym, the custom sprint tracks really do stand out. It's the perfect spot to perform sled pulls or use the sandbags for a killer conditioning workout. (I might need to reduce this section)

The strength zone also had custom inlays on the Oak Lifting Platform Inserts and middle sprint track.

Throughout the facility, there was also a range of 40mm High Impact Gym Flooring Tiles and 20mm Premium Tiles featuring transition strips and our CAP system to keep it all together.

THE OUTCOME

Volt 2.0 is a testament to the hard work of Ali, Pete, as well as the loyalty and commitment of the strong community built over the years in the area. Ready to continue building on what they started in their first site, this second site has received a lot of praise, and the team is already seeing high use of the facility's new equipment. (may need to switch image below to make different to one above)
