As part of North Lanarshire Leisure's ongoing partnership with Origin Fitness, December 2017 saw the major refurbishment of Airdrie Leisure Centre. The NLL team opted for an ambitious redesign and development of the fitness offering within the facility.
As with many of the other existing facilities refurbished by Origin Fitness in the past, Airdrie's main objective was to accommodate their large member base, and to bring the latest fitness trends to the local population. To minimise disruption during the gym's busiest hours, the gym space was divided in to four main zones with an indoor cycling studio on a separate floor.
Sectioned in to traditional cardio and strength, functional training, free weight and plate loaded strength, the gym floor has taken on a defined zone layout to make finding the right piece of equipment easy even at heavy peak times.
Offering members the latest technology, 19 pieces of the latest Star Trac 8 Series Cardio equipment were installed, offering members 15" interactive touch screen from which they can control their workout, their entertainment and upload their training progress to a host of fitness apps.
In addition to this fleet of traditional cardio machines, Origin Fitness supplied another 19 pieces of alternative cardio equipment, including the highly popular Speedfit Curved Treadmill, Stairmaster HIIT cardio equipment, a Jacob's Ladder and a Versa Climber. This high number of alternative cardio stations reflects the growing demand for high intensity circuits style training on the gym floor and the continued growth of this type of requirement in commercial facilities.
In the fixed resistance zone, NL Leisure chose to install top quality Cybex Eagle, Nautilus Inspiration and Human Sport equipment. The space adjacent to these houses a range of Nautilus Leverage plate loaded machines for those looking for a more specific workout or train with a heavier load.
Within this same space, users will find an abundance of free weight equipment, including several full sets of Origin UD2 Urethane Dumbbells and adjustable benches. The real highlights of this zone are the three Origin Performance racks, lining the back wall and accompanied by platforms integrated perfectly with the surrounding flooring, making the racks more accessible and space conscious.
A combination of Origin Olympic Weight Plates and Origin Coloured Urethane Bumper Plates are stored on plate storage racks throughout the zone.
Against the back wall of the strength zone, a specialist functional training area was installed, complete with bespoke performance rig branded with North Lanarkshire Leisure's brand colours. This zone is identifiable by its red high impact flooring, and was set up to be the ideal circuit training environment both for groups and individuals.
Functional accessories such as the Origin Multi-sided Plyo Boxes, Origin Cast Iron Kettlebells, Boxing Bag and Gloves, and Origin Medicine Balls are all perfectly stored away within this zone, keeping a clear definintion between the various training areas.
The indoor cycling studio on the high floor hosts a fleet of 42 Stages SC3 Indoor Cycling Bikes with Power Meters and Eco Screen Consoles, offering their members the very latest in elite athlete training equipment.
A large screen behind the instructor podium is tuned in to each individual bike, allowing races, games, and general check ups on performance during a class. To complete the premium feel, wirelessly controled LED lights are installed throughout the room, creating a immersive cycling experience for the members.
All in all, over 650 individual pieces of equipment were brought in to Airdrie to create the exciting new gym as it exists today. To ensure the equipment is always in full working order, Origin Fitness has also provided a comprehensive service and maintenance solution.
This means that North Lanarkshire Leisure can rest easy knowing that their equipment is well looked after, and their members can continue training with minimal disruption.
We'd love to show you what we can do.
