Over the last few years, functional fitness has grown at an unbelievable rate and shows no signs of slowing down. Every other month, it seems like a new fitness event is launching, capitalising on its ever-growing popularity.
During our discussions with customers, members, and suppliers, we noticed one of the biggest issues is getting access to all of the equipment at an effective price point and the space requirements needed to offer functional fitness at scale.
This type of fitness has always existed, but in recent years competition variety has led to a significant focus and involvement in this style of training not just from consumers but also from sites themselves.
HIIT to Crossfit could be considered the first real boom, but there's been another shift in the industry in recent years as it's now impossible to go more than one mile without a Hyrox class being within touching distance across the UK.
The fitness space is always competitive and an industry that is ever-evolving to meet customers' demands. Trends come and go, but functional fitness and outdoor fitness are here to stay, and the Origin Fitbox® Container is the next revolution in this space, creating a one-stop shop for all your functional fitness needs.
The Concept
Space is a key factor in offering a range of training options to end users. While modern gyms can more easily adapt their facilities to offer HIIT-style training or Hyrox classes for their members, many organisations can't. It's not a feasible option for many clients, and we know more people want to tap into this training area.
There is a gap in the market for an all-in-one dedicated functional fitness solution that suits many individuals and industries. We're not just thinking of your typical independent gyms but of broader applications such as sports teams, military capacity, and places like schools or local authorities.
To bring this concept to life, we are proudly partnering with BeaverFit, a world-renowned specialist in this field and a leader in outdoor fitness solutions. Building on both companies' expertise, we are now in a position to launch the Origin Fitbox® Container soon.
What is the Origin Fitbox® Container?
The Fitbox® Container is a one-stop solution for all your functional fitness needs. It contains everything needed to run a well-rounded functional training session, including rig legs, brackets, and a host of attachments to expand its capabilities. This makes it adaptable to many surfaces, allowing it to be used on grass, solid ground, or set up with gym flooring underneath.
Designed to maximise equipment space, the inside of the container has been laid out to make accessing and storing equipment easy. This container can hold a range of wall balls, sleds, weight plates, sandbags, ski ergs, rowing machines, barbells, and exercise mats. It's large enough to hold a lot of equipment but still fairly compact in overall size.
It can also be customised in various colours to match your brand, but the standard version comes in sleek black with the Origin logo on the sides. Functional rigs can be limiting in that, once installed, they limit the space's use to only the rigs. These containers are more versatile than that, as they can be moved if required.
We envision many different uses for this, such as military personnel looking for a solution to fly in or keep on-site at all times, allowing them to keep military personnel fighting fit. At the same time, alternatively, educational facilities may have unused land they want to convert into something useful, such as an outdoor gym space. The box would be a great fit.
Around 16 people can work around the container at once, providing enough room for different equipment to be used simultaneously. Lastly, we also offer turf and outdoor flooring options, meaning the container doesn't have to be on soft ground and is equally usable on hard-standing surfaces with tiles and turf laid around it.
Origin Fitbox® Container Uses
This one-stop-shop configuration lends itself to a range of training options, including the obvious choice of outdoor fitness. We envision the container being suitable for various group workout sessions, making it more convenient to run functional fitness sessions.
Independent gyms may find they have spare car parking spaces that are never quite fully filled. The Origin Fitbox® Container would give them the perfect solution to running more classes and increasing member capacity. It would also be a great option for sites that can't expand inside their facility.
Group training is the name of the game, meaning whether it’s for a PT class, HIIT session, or simply running a boot camp, the Fitbox® Container makes it easy to access everything one could need to run these sessions. Rather than having to pull together all the equipment separately, the container offers a full solution for training.
Those interested in Hyrox will find everything you need to smash those PBs. Whether it’s improving ski erg technique, increasing sled strength or developing wall ball throws the setup of the container means everything is there ready to use.
We also think this could be a great solution for military sites that need a one-stop solution to keep service personnel fit or for educational and local authorities that may have limited access to creating a fitness space, that maybe are looking to turn a disused concrete space into a fitness hub for themselves and the local community.
Key Considerations for Site Survey and Groundwork Checklist
When deciding whether the Fitbox® Container is a feasible option for your site, there are several key areas that need to be considered. We have a comprehensive brochure that covers everything to be considered, including a site survey so if this is of interest then get in touch with our team below.
Consider the size of the vehicle that will deliver the 20' (6m) Container. Ridgid lorry/Loader will be up to 12m long and 2.8m wide therefore, entrance/gateways and roads need to be wide enough. Don't assume just because other vehicles such as skip lorries can access the site that a crane lorry can, Minimum height clearance of 4m is required to access a site.
Another aspect that needs to be considered are the ground conditions which maybe unable to support the lorry loader such as underground cables, manholes to cross. Crane vehicles can be incredibly heavy meaning they can't cross soft ground like grass, gravel over soil, or shale.
One final point wehave to consider is planning and funding, is this a budget or formal tender request, what is the funding status of the projectand what are the anticipated timescales for delivery. We also need to be aware if there are existing planning permission specialists on board or is a complete design, planningprocurement, delivery and project management service required.
